Dear Joan, Elaine, Janice, Brent and the rest of the family. I’m so sorry to hear of Roddie’s passing. He was one-of-a-kind. A classic. I mostly remember him leaning against the garage door after a hard day’s work. Beer in one hand. Cigarette in the other. A man of few words, but when he spoke…usually with the blue Jays on the radio in the background…I listened. Just a really nice person with a heart of gold. Please accept my deepest condolences.

To Roddie’s family. I am very sorry to hear that Roddie past. He was such a great guy. I work with him in the 1970’s at Western Electric, he was a great teacher and person. I learned a lot from Roddie and I will never forget him. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always talked about his family and friends with great respect.
I hadn’t seen him in many years because I worked away from home most of the time. He will be missed by a lot of Brothers, Sosters’ and friends. He was also a good Union Brother.
He will definitely missed by many people.
Respectfully yours,
Bill Bleakney

The string between the MacDonnells & Fen tons started some 30 years ago, when Elaine came to New Zealand for softball and met our daughter Jane. Subsequently Jane later traveled to Canada and was a witness at Elaine & Robs wedding.
Then Brent came to stay.
Finally met Roddie &Joan when we traveled to Nova Scotia for Brent & Beth's wedding.
Roddie & Joan were amazing hosts. Roddie was our chauffeur to see the north and then we joined family get together at Brule beach. Oh the memories we have from that time. Of course Roddie was constantly trying to convert us to drinking warm beer!!!
Joan finally got Roddie on a plane to NZ. I think she threatened him that she would come on her own, he quickly got over his fear of flying.
As we toured around, the beer got warmer and the crib games more intense. A trophy was involved!! Won by Canada, NZ thrashed.
Rest well Roddie, I'm so glad we met and shared a small part of your life.
Condolences to Joan and all the Family.

Joan, Elaine, Janice, Brent and Siblings!
I’m so sorry for your loss and have been sending Prayers, Healing and Love to all of you at this, most difficult time.
Losing a loved one that you have a truly unique connection with is heartbreaking.
I have many great memories of Bert, Anna and family. They were wonderful!!
I first met the MacDonnell family after their move to Elmsdale. They owned the gas station and small convenience store which Anna looked after. There were several cabins to the side of their main home.
I was close friends with Dorothy (Dot) and also Barbara. I spent a lot of time there when we were very young. I remember playing in the cabins and although her brothers and sisters were a few years older some of them would be around, always so loving and nice just like Bert and Anna.
Rod, being 5 years older than me, helped his father in the business. He always had a smile on his face and never once told us to get lost. He was Special, exactly what I dreamed an older brother would be.
I can remember during the summers, on a Saturday or Sunday, Dot, Barbara and I would walk to Enfield, close to where the Big Stop is today. We would stop at ENDALE, usually there would be some friends hanging out.
Special Memory was babysitting Dot and Tommy’s first born son a few times.
Death cannot diminish the important ways
Rod / Dad Touched your Life,
Grief cannot take away the Happiness you shared,
LOVE remains FOREVER!
May all your wonderful memories help bring you Strength and Peace!
Joan (Hines) Cable, Desirée, Andrea & Family
(Living in Alberta since 1988, thanks to my sister Margaret for sending me the link to Rod’s Obituary)

Sending sincere condolences to Joan, Elaine, Janice, Brent and families, as well as Rod's siblings.
I have so many great memories of Rod & Joan; from their friendship with my parents, Alex & Mary McKeen and all the card games the four of them enjoyed together, to our Guiding days where Rod was always helping Joan wherever needed, and of course the church where Rod was so active with the Knights, and the Legion where he volunteered so many hours for the benefit of our community. And later when my husband Peter worked with Roddie and formed a lasting friendship. The list goes on, and I will cherish those memories always.
I hope the sharing of memories in the days ahead will bring comfort to you all as you mourn the physical presence of Rod in your lives, but know his spirit lives on in everyone who knew him.
Take Care and God Bless you all,
Michelle, Peter, Jodi, Trevor & Ian
