Obituary of Jake Folkertsma

FOLKERTSMA, Jacob “Jake” - passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2024. Born July 6, 1937 in Friesland, the Netherlands, he was the son of the late Rein and Jaitske Folkertsma; husband of Wilhelmina Folkertsma. 

Jake came to Canada with his life-long friend, Winston Bokma in 1956, at age 19 with plans of starting their own dairy farms. Jake farmed for 45 years in Shubenacadie, before retiring in Milford and later moving to Bible Hill. 

Jake was a loving husband, father, and opa. In his retirement, Jake loved reading and spending time with his wife and family. Jake's greatest gift was receiving Jesus Christ. He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour in May 1972. Jake's life changed from a life of religion to a personal relationship with Jesus, he loved to share Jesus with anyone who would listen.

In addition to his parents, Jake was predeceased by an infant son, and son Jack (Rorie) Folkertsma. Jake is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Wilhelmina (Boertjes) Folkertsma, Bible Hill; three sisters in Holland and one sister in NB; children, Janet (Michael) Natoli, Virginia; Helen (Pierre) Dussault, Middle Sackville; Richard, Ontario; Ann, PEI; Rayna (John), Stewiacke; grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexander, Jeremy, Ashley, Jonathan, Danielle, Taylor, Kylie, Jacob, Mya, Rachel; great grandchildren, Sophie, Jackson, Connor, Lyla, Brody, Sierrah.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, where the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with the Pastor Paul Worden officiating. There will be no visitation, private family burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
