Obituary of Sarah Frances Sack

SACK (MICHAEL), Sarah Frances - age 68, of Sipekne'Katik First Nation, passed away on June 15, 2024, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Noel and Rita Rose (Paul) Michael.

Sarah was a well known member of her community and cherished her many accomplishments in life.

Firstly, she loved to put on talent shows and entertainment events in her community where it made many people happy to both participate and watch. Sarah loved to sing and was even a member of a choir at some point of her life. She spent many years singing the songs she loved.

Secondly, she was very proud to have connected with First Nation Traditionalist from the West Coast, namely Albert Lightning, which helped to restore the traditional teachings back to her community (East Coast). Sarah was instrumental in restoring the Traditional Gatherings (Mawio'mi) in her community, which is celebrated every year in First Nation Communities all across the East Coast.

Thirdly, she was nominated for her album, "Flowers in Bloom" at the East Coast Music Awards in 1996. It was the first time that First Nations music was entered into the Event.

Finally, she was overwhelmed when Sipekne'katik First Nation held an event at the Mawio'mi where they honoured her achievement of bringing traditional ways (Mawio'mi)back to the community many years earlier. This recognition truly was her "One Moment in Time". Thank you to Sipekne'katik.

She absolutely adored looking at the photos and Facebook posts with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished every moment.

Sarah is survived by her sons, Jon (Julie) and Trevor; grandchildren, Austin (Meghan), Reece, Cole, Landon, Chayce, Keisha, Infinity, Anthony and Trevor; great grandsons, Koa, Dakota, and Kaius; sisters, Catherine “Gudd”Sack and Nina Jackson (Vincent), with a special note that she considered (Nina's children),Nathan and Joseph, to also be her adopted sons;brother, Joe (Elizabeth) Michael. Sarah had numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren, all whom she treated like her own children.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her grandson, Wyatt Ali Simon Nevin, whom she called her “Little Warrior”; brothers, Norman (Shiela) Morris Eskasoni, Stephen (Eleanor) Michael, and Wilfred (Chiefy) Michael; loving sisters, Magdalene Michael, Lavina Michael, Laura Howe, and Patsy (Kenneth) Michael.

Special note: Sarah's regalia in which she will be wearing, was handmade by her loving childhood friend, Ida Simon. She loved it and wanted to wear it for her Journey to the Spirit World. Thank you, Ida.
