Obituary of Rose Ann Morris
MORRIS, (nee KNOCKWOOD), Rose Ann – age 94, born July 13, 1929 in Truro, has made her journey to the spirit world at sunrise on May 13, 2024.
Rose was an elder to many communities and had made an impression on everyone who met her. Rose and some of her family moved to Gold River Reserve, Acadia Band in 1975, but always visited her home town Indian Brook. She is predeceased by her husband, Ben Morris, her daughters, Elizabeth “Betty/ Doosie”, Patricia and her son, Adrian. Her parents, John and Theresa (Simon) Knockwood.
Rose was a residential school survivor but overcame a number of obstacles the school forced on her. She graduated Dalhousie University with a BSW Degree at the age of 61 and became a Welfare Officer for The Acadian Band. She was instrumental for bringing the Mawiomi at Gold River Reserve. Rose had a number of accomplishments in her lifetime and she will be missed by many.
She is survived by her adult children, Louis (Carla) Morris, Indian Brook, Donna Morris, Indian Brook, Theresa Morris, Indian Brook and Philip Morris (Janice), Gold River; sister, Maxine Knockwood, Halifax, she leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Her absence is felt by many who knew her and she is missed by family and friends.
The Morris family sends a heartfelt thank you to Heather Pennel and Liz Brooks for being with her when we could not.
To the staff at Bridgewater, South Shore Regional Hospital, the nurses and doctors who cared for our mother Rose, we thank you.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm on both Wednsday May 15th and Thursday May 16th, at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A Traditional graveside service will be held at 10am on Friday May 17th, 2024, at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Indian Brook.
