Obituary of Jack Cornish
Please share a memory of Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CORNISH, Perley Louis “Jack” – age 86 of Lantz. With heavy hearts, surrounded by his family, Jack passed on February 18th, 2024 after a recent battle with cancer. Born in McGivney N.B., he was a son of the late George Cornish and Muriel (Peterson) Kane. Special son to the late Laura Wade.
Jack defied the odds after having to leave school in grade 6. He furthered his education at Saint Georges University and then joined RCAF/CAF and was a member for 30 years during which he upgraded his trades and education. Upon his retirement he went on to be Deputy Sheriff and then High Sheriff in Hants County for the next 15 years. He was a member of the Milford Lions Club, the Elmsdale Legion and St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church, Elmsdale. He recently celebrated 50 years as a member of the Legion. Jack was always known for his easy-going nature and sense of humor. He was first in line to help a neighbor and is fondly remembered as being a kind soul. Over the years he enjoyed his travels with the CAF, camping, golfing, country music and stoking a good campfire.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Catherine (Mason), Lantz; his cherished daughters, Wanda (Brian) Densmore, Stewiacke, Sheryl (Ted) Howlett, Elmsdale, Kelli Cornish, Halifax. He was proud to be Grampy (Papa) to Nicholas and Natasha Densmore, Amanda and Mitchell Howlett, Caleb, Camden and Abbie Taylor. He was over the moon to become a Great Grampy to Reeve Stokdijk. He was a Special Uncle to Lily Retfalvi (Allison, Alex and Kyle) and Heather Mason (Mason and Adam). Brother to Carrol Cornish and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Jack would like to add that he “LOVED THEM ALL, my wife Cathy and my loving family who were always there for me.”
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Basil and Arnold Cornish.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Iain MacNeil; Nurse, Kim Ritchie; the Palliative Care Team (Dawn Ross and Dr. Smith); the VON Team; the Palliative Care Unit and the Hospice Society of the Truro Hospital.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. There will be no Visitation or Service at Jack’s request.
