Wilfred Dillman

Obituary of Wilfred Allen Dillman

DILLMAN, Wilfred Allen – age 95 of Enfield, passed away suddenly at home on January 6th, 2024. Born in Oldham, he was a son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Reynolds) Dillman.

Wilfred was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was loved dearly by all.

He worked as a paving crew foreman for Steed & Evans Ltd. in the summer and a snow plow operator for the Ministry of Transportation at Halifax International Airport for 25 years, in the winter. He would often joke about chasing snowflakes around the runways.

Wilfred retired at age 65 and was one of the fortunate ones to be able to have had 30 years of retirement to enjoy. He stayed busy building different things, doing small engine repair, and gardening. His whole family reaped the benefits of his large vegetable garden each year, and the yard was filled with beautiful flowers he grew and tended.

He loved fishing and going to his camp with friends and family for weekends of fun and fishing. He truly was a “jack of all trades” as his knowledge and experiences were immense. He always loved being outdoors, which is where you would find him most of the time. Lending a helping hand was in his nature, he was witty and smart.

Wilfred is survived by his children, Doug (Marie), Enfield,;Leonard (Elizabeth), Enfield; Ernest, Enfield; Sandra (Kerry), Fletchers Lake; John (Janette), Enfield; Michele (Rick), Cheverie. Also survived by 13 grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Chickness, Stellarton; June Dollarhide, Westport, WA.

Besides his parents, Wilfred was predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Ida, whom he missed immeasurably; son, David; sisters, Evelyn, Ida, Voilet and Jean; brother, Basil.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11 am in St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Enfield. Fr. Gerald David officiating. Burial to follow in St. Bernard’s cemetery. A livestream of the service will be available. Reception to follow at Ettinger Funeral Home, Elmsdale location, 860 Highway 2, Elmsdale.
