Obituary of Art West

WEST, Arthur Elroy, age 84, of Milford, Hants County, passed away on December 31, 2023 in the Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.  Born in Milford, he was a son of the late Harry and Etta (Kellough) West.

Arthur began working on the family dairy farm at the age of 13. He enjoyed golf, hockey, curling, playing cards and was known for his fiercely competitive spirit.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, as he loved the woods and being in nature.  Art was a gifted birdwatcher who used his keen memory to identify species by their song. A social person, Art was known for his great sense of humour and an infectious laugh which was easily recognized at any gathering.  He loved to tease and torment his friends and family.   He was a longtime member of the Milford Lions Club and a former caretaker at the Milford and Oak Hill Cemeteries.  He was a past volunteer at the Milford and District Fire Department.  Art looked forward to “Tuesday adventures” with his good friend, Al Wallace, which brought them to various locations within the province.  In retirement he enjoyed travelling with Myrna to many destinations, an Alaskan cruise being his favourite. 

Art will be sadly missed by his wife, Myrna (nee Carter); sons, James (Charlene), Richard and Jason (Angie); grandchildren, Tiffany, Hayden and Taylor; brothers Ralph (Winnie) and Roy (Zorka); several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lorne and his daughter-in-law, Kim.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes. A Celebration of Life will be held 2-4pm Saturday, February 10, 2024 in the Milford Recreation Centre, Milford.
