URQUHART, Alexander Real "Alex", of Shubenacadie died suddenly on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Born in Cheticamp, CB, he was a son of the late Duncan and Christine (MacIntosh) Urquhart. Alex started work with the National Parks Department in the Highlands, then moved to Scarborough, ON, in his early 20's to do factory work, in 1976 he moved to Shubenacadie to work at National Gypsum, then Gays River Mines and I.M.P. at the Halifax International Airport from where he retired in 2001. Alex was a gifted self-taught fiddler and proud to be a Cape Bretoner with the charm and wit along with his Scottish heritage. He was frequently requested to play on weekends with groups at Broad Cove and Cheticamp along with Kitchen Parties and the Keltic Colours. Alex was very proud of his children and especially of his grandchildren. He enjoyed his daily coffee at Tim Horton's with friends. Alex is survived by his wife Catherine (Mason), daughters Judy (Jamie) Taylor, Shelley Urquhart (Rod), sons Ron (Diane) Dixon and Lowell (Stacey) Dixon; grandchildren Brenna, Jarred, Garrett, Rhiania, Carlie, Katie, Jack, Emma and Ethan; great granddaughter Ava; brothers Malcolm (Peggy), Richard (Judy); sister Donna; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his biological father Angus Chisholm brothers Frank, Douglas, sister Patsy. Funeral service 11am Friday in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Dale Crawford DLM officiating. Reception to follow the service. Spring interment in Brookside Cemetery.
