I remember being at the Halifax County Exhibition and my pony got in a kicking match with another pony. That was many years ago, 1983, and it’s Aubrey I remember coming in and pulling my pony and me to safety.

My heart goes out to Esther, Michelle, Kevin and Kelly for the loss of Aubrey. You all were truly blessed to have a devoted husband, father and grandfather in your lives.
I will remember Uncle Aubrey as a honorable, generous, hard working, fair man who was thoughtful, had a quick wit and sense of humor. He was a all around handyman with a love for animals ,vehicles and nature. He was very forgiving of all the grey hair his kids along with nieces and nephews gave him while we were growing up. Who loved his family above all else. Treasure your memories. Rest in Peace Aubrey.

Cousin Aubrey and Esther welcomed my Mom and I into the family so many years ago. I was an inner city kid who loved the outdoors and fishing and hunting. Aubrey took me on my first hunting trip for rabbits. Kevin wasn't old enough...Michelle and her horses and little Kelly...I'm really feeling my age now. Aubrey picked me up in Dartmouth and we proceeded to Cooks Brook. On the way I'm certain I pestered him with questions about his hunting and fishing exploits. We stopped at the Ben's store on the way to pick up what I thought were enormous amounts of bread and rolls. Thinking back...they must have been for livestock because Esther was always in baking mode! The next morning, we got up and dressed for the hunt after having a hearty breakfast and Aubrey loaded his 22...think it was a lever action...had a tubular magazine which I hadn't seen before. We hiked some trails and Aubrey told me about trapping and remember him pointing out a spot on a log he had caught a bobcat previously. He showed me tracks in the snow and taught me how to tell what direction a rabbit was travelling. He showed me deer tracks and how to tell the difference between a buck's tracks vs a does. Showed me where rabbits like to hide. Showed me how to make a rabbit snare. I remember him "thinking" he saw a rabbit...fires three shots at it and when the "ears" fell off he realized it was just snow disguised as a rabbit. Strange how now, after remembering these things that I truly feel the loss. Aubrey impacted the life of a lonely young boy who had no Dad to show him these things and I'm so glad that Aubrey spent that very special day with me. My sincere condolences to all family and friends.
