Obituary of Doreen Cox

COX, Inez “Doreen” – age 80, of North Noel Road, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.  Born in Gormanville, she was a daughter of the late Lorne and Emma (Laffin) Neil.

Mom was a quiet woman who enjoyed the simple things in life.  Besides her family, Mom’s greatest love was for animals.  Mom kept her circle small but if you were in it then you were obviously special to her.  She proudly spoke of her children and grandchildren.  Mom raised her family with love and dedication.  She did it all – from budgeting, cooking, cleaning, property maintenance to loving, comforting and teaching.  She had the softest hands and the most beautiful smile and raised her family instilling the importance of respect for others.  Mom was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, country music and had a great love for flowers and gardening.  She enjoyed going for drives to look at the flowers and shrubs others had on their properties in the Summer, the changing of the leaves in the Fall, and the Christmas lights in December.  She enjoyed Sunday drives along the shore, reminiscing about where she began raising her family.   Mom’s final drive will take place on Thursday, November 9^th when she leaves Shubenacadie and travels Hwy. 215 along the shore, past her birthplace and former homestead in Gormanville and finally to rest at the St. Paul’s United Church Cemetery in North Noel Road.

Doreen is survived by her children, Bobby,  Donnie (Krista), Vivian and Margie (Doug); grandchildren, Crystal (Rita), Cory (Kathryn), Robin, Janelle and Ryan (Cheyenne); sisters Laura White and Adeline Hennigar; sisters-in-law, Doris Neil and Aileen Cox; numerous nieces and nephews; friends and her beloved feline companions Tiger, Molly and Scamp.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Joyce MacLearn; brothers, Reginald Neil and a brother in infancy; as well as the father of her children, Junior Cox.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday in St. Paul’s United Church, North Noel Road, Rev Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
