BLOIS, Laura Reid – age 94 of Lantz, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 1st, 2023, in The Mira Nursing Home, Truro. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts to the late Dougal and Sarah (MacQuarrie) Reid. At the age of 5, she was adopted by the late James Herbert and Margaret (Cumminger) Fisher.

After Laura was born in Massachusetts, her family returned to Nova Scotia where she lived until the age of 5. After her mother died, she moved to Arizona with her adoptive parents until the age of 14 when she and her adoptive family returned to Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia. Laura attended business college in Truro and then worked at the Dock Yard. She then stopped working to raise her family of 5 children. Eventually she returned to work as a dental receptionist. She also operated Cameron’s General Store with her husband. Laura was a great cook and baker and provided many meals and baked goods to her loved ones. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Laura especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Laura spent over 20 years wintering in Florida with her husband. She enjoyed shuffling and earned many trophies. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for over 75 years and a member of St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church, Elmsdale.

Laura is survived by her children, David (Tracey), Paul, Philip (Jennifer), Mary; daughter-in-law, Shelley; grandchildren, Corey (Leslie), Kody (Kim), Ariel; great grandchildren, Thane and Brea; sister, Edna Laffin; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her birth and adoptive parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Archie; son, Gordon; sisters, Helena and Elody; brother, Parker.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, August 6th, 2023, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. The Order of the Eastern Star will hold a Star Service at 1:45 PM from the same location on Monday, August 7th, 2023, followed by a funeral service beginning at 2 PM, Rev. Beth Mattinson officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will take place in Sandy Hill Cemetery, Belnan, following the reception.
