Obituary of Katherine Charmaine Schrader

SCHRADER, Katherine Charmaine -  age 80, of Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2023 at The Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. She was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton. She was the daughter of the late James MacKinnon and Helen MacKinnon (Neville).

Charmaine was predeceased by her loving husband “Jim” James Wilbert Schrader and her sister, Lois Swain.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Sullivan; also her children, James Schrader, Anthony Schrader (Susan Poole), Marilyn DeWolfe (Stephen Keddy), Wanda Schrader (Cecil Nichols), Dean Schrader (Amanda Helin). Charmaine had eleven grandchildren that adored her. They gave her the gift of 22 great grandchildren.

When Charmaine was 18 years old, she met the love of her life whom she went on to marry. Charmaine and Jim had 56 wonderful years together before his passing in 2017. Charmaine spent most of her life raising her 5 children, passing on the love of music to a lot of them. Charmaine loved to play the piano and sing harmony, along with her children. One of the most special times to Charmaine and Jim was Soldiers Lake. A better part of 20 years was spent camping, playing guitars, swimming, fishing and singing songs. Charmaine always caught the biggest fish. Charmaine worked for Canada Post for many years. She loved her job and her co-workers. Charmaine is described as an “angel” by many. She would never have anything bad to say about anyone. She found the good in them and that is what she focussed on. She was a pure sweetheart, who many called “Mom”. Charmaine can finally be reunited with her loving husband James, whom she missed so much.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Liturgy of the Word will take place at 10 am on Monday, July 17, in St. Bridget Roman Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Parish, Shubenacadie.
