So sorry to hear of Joan's passing. She was so kind to my mom, Iona, while both were residents at Braeside. They were girls from the Grant and she would try to jog Mom's memories of her childhood of living there. Joan and I had so many conversations about her children and always hoping to get back to the farm once more. Once I even got a hug which brought such a big smile to both of our faces.

We have quite a number of memories of Joan; though some would say we only knew her a short time, and that is true in comparison as she was certainly an icon in the Grant and Musquodoboit Valley areas through her lifetime. We can't say why but for some reason Joan took to us quickly and let us in to her circle of friends, showing us trust and regard that for her was usually a guarded response.
Joan and Mackie made a great team at least in their time of life that we were near them. Ken fondly recalls putting together furniture for them and calls to "fix" the television when "wrong buttons" were pushed. Loretta traded haircuts and small household chores in exchange for a Mackie big tractor plow job. Joan looked forward to visits from Loretta's Mom and always wanted to give her ornaments and trinkets each time, often to Marion's dismay as to what to do with the many ornaments etc. Joan did not "suffer fools gladly"; so we took her trust and affection with pride and good feelings.
May she be at peace, re-united with Mackie, on an idyllic farm with beloved work horses and acres of grass for her to mow on a little ride-on that would be her "escape to freedom".
Our Sincere Condolences to the Sibley Clan.

My condolences to the Sibley family.
Every Wed morning I would get a call at the Co-op from your mother with her grocery list, these calls were more chats about what was going on in her life. Mackie would come in after lunch for pick up ( One of the highlights of my day). We had many a conversation over the years!

It is with deep sadness that I learn of Joan's passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. I remember Joan with fondness. Spending time with Joan & Mackie was always a pleasure. I loved hearing their stories of yesteryears & browsing old family photos with them. I remember Joan doing janitor work at the old elementary school in Meaghers Grant many years ago. I know she enjoyed being outside mowing the lawns with their lawn tractor. Joan was a tireless worker, straightforward, and kind. I remember years ago when she had a stroke and things looked very grim for her. However, Joan's strong will & sheer determination to live and beat the odds was nothing short of remarkable, and she amazed her doctors with her recovery! In fact, I believe Joan's recovery was recorded in a 'medical case study'. Sadly, I regret not having visited Joan over the last while even though she had been in my thoughts just recently. At this difficult time, may you find comfort & hope in God's promise of the ressurection. Hugs.
