Obituary of Jerry Wright

Please share a memory of Jerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

WRIGHT, Edward Gerald “Jerry”

December 18, 1940 – May 17, 2023 (Pickering, Ontario)

It’s with tremendous sadness that Jerry’s family announces his passing on May 17, 2023, at 82 years young.

Jerry was born in East Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, on December 18, 1940.  At 24 years old, he moved to Ontario, where he made his home and raised his beautiful and ever-expanding family, with his wife, Ria, in Pickering, Ontario.

Jerry was a man who was unapologetically himself.  He was a hard worker, a collector of anything that may be useful one day, an avid hunter, and a nature enthusiast.  He didn’t need much to survive; he was a fan of rain-showers and didn’t mind a good outhouse.  He could also Jerry-rig anything to make something out of nothing and had a special love for duct tape.

Jerry was a man of honesty and integrity, and could always win a debate (there was no arguing with Jerry, he was always Wright!).  He was a loving husband, devoted father and the best papa a grandchild could ask for.  Jerry’s joy came from spending time with his loved ones. It didn’t matter if you were a neighbour, a friend of a friend, a co-worker, an in-law, or an ex-in-law, to this man, everyone was family, and everyone was welcome.

While we would have loved to have Jerry with us a little longer, he died as he lived, working hard, with his family, in Stewiacke, his second home.

Jerry will be forever missed by his daughters, Katharine “Kathy” (Joe) and Belinda (D'arcy), daughter-in-law, Jenefer Luchies; son-in-law, Scott, his brothers, David and Chris (Nadine),  sisters, Gloria (Bill) Burtt, Nancy MacNab, Debbie (John) Frizzell, Laurel (Jacques) LaCroix; sister-in-law, Pat; his grandchildren, Felicia (Nick), Adrian (Gina), Brianna, Brittney (James), Savannah (Devon), Jarrod (Krista), Jeremy, Nathaniel, Wolfgang, Isabella, Brendon (Brenda), Great-Grandchildren, Jayden, Leah, Dominik, Paytyn, Gracelyn, Nova, Braxten, Jayce, Finley, Brysen, Olivia and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria “Ria” Wright, his son, Gordon Wright, his Great-Grandson, Brayden, his parents, Gordon and Clara Wright, his sister Sharon (Ron) Gill (Wright), his brother Steven Wright and his infant siblings, Mary Diane and Lawrence.

On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, visitation will be held from 2PM -3:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4 PM , all in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia.  The service may be viewed live at: https://event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=fb87dd26-1b8c-4c95-83ac-20d22a0e12b2  (A recording will be  available to view after the service, using the same link)

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Shriners Hospitals.

A Celebration of Jerry's life, along with his wife, Ria's, will be  held in Ontario at a later date.

Tributes, words of comfort and memories of Jerry may be shared with the family at: www.ettingerfuneralhome.com

As Jerry would say “love ya, see ya soon”.
