Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
JEFFREY(GRANT), Mary Jane- 65, Enfield/Wolfville, died at the Halifax Infirmary Site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre on January 9, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Saint John, NB, on June 21, 1948, she was a daughter of Mary (Williams) Grant of Kentville and the late Ronald Grant. Mary Jane graduated from Acadia University with a B.A.(MUS) in 1969 and Dalhousie University with a B.Ed. in 1970. She taught private piano in Wolfville and Enfield and taught music in public schools in Halifax and Enfield. She was a junior choir director and Sunday School teacher. Mary Jane was formally diagnosed with MS in 1982 and lived as fully as possible; assisted by manual and motorized wheel chairs and an accessible van, she travelled across Canada and parts of the US. Mary Jane will be sadly missed by her husband of 43 years, Michael, daughters, Sarah (Chris) Hamilton and Barbara (William) Hibbs, both of Cole Harbour, grandchildren, Jarrett, Benjamin, and Kayla, two great granddaughters, and sister Susan Grant (Gordon Gavin), of Wolfville. She is also survived by her "special granddaughter," Autumn, her extended family, and many special friends. She was predeceased by her father, Ron Grant. As MS progressed, Mary Jane was assisted by a number of private caregivers, but was particularly blessed to be supported since 2004 by friend and CNA, Michelle Dulong. Since 2009, Mary Jane was actively supported in her home by the Colchester East Hants VON, Elmsdale Medical Centre, and was grateful for the support from Home Care Nova Scotia. Since October 2013, she received excellent care from ICU/IMCU staff of the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. Cremation has taken place and internment will occur at a later date. A Service in Celebration of Mary Jane's life will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, January 16 in the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Pastor Michael Trites officiating, reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Victorian Order of Nurses, QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation or the charity of your choice.
