Obituary of Jack Hines

HINES, John Earl “Jack” – age 85 of Dutch Settlement, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19th, 2023, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Dutch Settlement, he was a son of the late Harry and Pearl (Simpson) Hines.
Jack worked at L.E. Shaw Ltd. For 42 ½ years where he became a welder. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making his much-loved maple syrup at the camp at Shaw’s Lake. Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, Larry (Opal) Hines, Carrolls Corner; Danny (Doris) Hines, Enfield; daughter, Susan (Craig) Higgins, Middle Musquodoboit; cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, Austin, Sam, Whitney, Andrew, Hannah, Alexander, Nathan and Johnathan; great grandchildren, Jack, Claire and Reese; sister, Olga “Bess” Hines, Dutch Settlement; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; siblings, Lorna, Iris, Nina, Joyce, Betty, Aubrey, Auley, Dorothea and Errold.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 6 – 8 PM on Thursday, January 26th, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kara Evers (NP), and all of the doctors and nurses at both the Colchester East Hants Health Centre and Musquodoboit Memorial Hospital for the outstanding care. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.
