BROWN, Greta Clare (nee - McPhee) - 79, Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Elk Court, Brookfield on January 5, 2014. Born in MacPhee's Corner, Greta was the daughter of the late Howard and Hattie (Tanner) McPhee. Greta was a devoted member of the Shubenacadie United Church, serving as elder, member of the choir and as a lifetime member of the U.C.W. She touched many lives throughout her career as teacher, which spanned from 1952 -1989, when she retired. She taught in schools located in Hants, Colchester Counties and spent most of these years in the Shubenacadie District School. Greta and Wilford met and were married 58 years ago. They loved to travel, attend community dances and spend time with their children and grandchildren. Greta also had many hobbies including tole painting, baking and bird watching. She loved planting flowers and tending to her garden. She is survived by her son Michael (Janice) Urbania; Stephanie (Paul), Toronto; Shelley (Eric) Oakville; grandchildren Ben, Emily, Jill, Meaghan, Adam and David; sister Audrey Nolter, Shubenacadie. She was predeceased by her husband Wilford, brothers Fulton "Buster", Alfred, Cecil, and infant sister Goldie. Visitation 2-4pm & 7-9pm, Thursday January 9th in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, with funeral service 2pm, Friday in Shubenacadie United Church, Rev. Martin Reid officiating. Special thanks to Elk Court staff on Creamery Lane who took very good care of Greta.
