CLEARY Sr., Charles Leo - 92, Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2013 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Guysborough, he was the son of the late William and Eva (Cunningham) Cleary. Leo was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served overseas in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After he came home from the war he operated a shoe store and shoe repair shop in the village. He also worked at Ettinger Home Hardware, Shubenacadie Co-op and Canadian Tire. Leo was an avid gardener and a life-long sports fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Elsie (Wilcox), daughter-in-law Nancy; children Brian (Valerie), Bernie, Bernice (Bill) and Wayne; grandchildren Cheryl, Angie, Debbie, Heidi, Karen, Shawn and Lisa; sixteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Charles. Visitation will take place 7-9p.m. Thursday December 5, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, with a Legion Tribute Service beginning at 7p.m. Funeral service 10a.m. Friday in St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church, Shubenacadie, Father Tom Kurudeepan OMI officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
