Obituary of Gerald Douglas Tanner

TANNER, Gerald Douglas – age 82 of Shubenacadie East, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2021 in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Bedford, he was a son of the late William and Alice (Smith) Tanner.
Gerald started working when he was 16 at Moirs in Halifax. He went on to become an accomplished mechanic through various GM companies in Halifax and went on to open his own mechanical business which he operated until his retirement in 2002. Gerald enjoyed racing, rabbit hunting, fishing, horse racing; but his greatest enjoyment came from racing with his two sons and grandsons and making sure the cars were “Tanner tuned”. Gerald was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sheila (Ryan); sons, Jody (Carole) and Jack (Susan); grandchildren, Riley, Macailin, Cole, Austin; sister, Lorraine (Fred) Murray; brother, Arthur.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Pearl, Gladys, Maude, Lillian and Doris; brothers, George, Henry, Carl James, Gordon, Edward and Richard.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No service or visitation by request.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the VON nurses who cared for Gerald in his home and a special thank you to the staff and volunteers of East Cumberland Lodge for the compassionate, loving and dedicated care that was given to Gerald while he resided there.
