Obituary of Lillian Emma Wicks
WICKS, Lillian Emma-age 81, of Nine Mile River-It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lillian at home on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Born December 14, 1939 in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Jean (Collins) Hyland.
When she was young, Lillian enjoyed helping her family run their store near the Armdale Rotary. She later worked as a switchboard operator for Scotia Chev Olds. It was on her way home from work one day that she met her lifelong sweetheart, John, while riding on the bus by Dalhousie University. Six months later they were married, never leaving each other’s sides. Together, with their young family, they enjoyed summers at Shortts Lake and building their dream home in Nine Mile River. Lillian put her creative skills to use as an avid Brownie Leader. She was also accomplished in needlepoint, a skill she passed down to her daughter and granddaughter. As she grew older, Lillian enjoyed attending luncheons with friends, and found great joy in summer road trips and vacations to Disney World with her family. A true Nova Scotian, she loved lobster and would never turn down a claw or knuckle.
Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John Wicks; daughter, Darlene (Paul) Arsenault; son, Greg Wicks; brother, Paul (Sue) Hyland; granddaughter, Amy Arsenault; grandson, Colton Wicks; sister-in-law, Maureen; many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was predeceased by brothers, Harold (Betty), Donald and Robie (in infancy); sister, Rosalie (Sid) Jackson.
To honor her wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No service by request.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
