I am granite
Rocks lashed by a cold, salty Sea,
I am grey sky and hard winds;
The fierce Beauty of golden flowers
Clingingi to the ancient soil.
The scent of heather.
I am laughter, and greetings
And strong loving arms ,
My eyes see, Beauty and Truth and Love
My words are kind and full of Grace
I am bright beginnings and joy
Fare well, Blue Eyes -blue skies-
Straight on-count the stars.

Our dear "N.S.Mum", this candle is a token of our deep appreciation for the love, caring, and kindness you had bestowed on us while we're living in Nova Scotia. You indeed had lit up our lives. You'll be fondly remembered and forever missed.

Penny and family, Jennifer and Eric, I'm much saddened to hear about the passing of your dear mother and grandmother and would like to express my deepest condolences for your great loss. At this difficult time, my thoughts are with you. Mrs. Dyer had a long and fulfilling life. She was a very kind, loving, wise and dignified lady. She excelled in whatever she did. Thanks Penny, for bringing me into your family and sharing your mum with me. She had been my "N.S.Mum" since. I always enjoyed her home cooking, in particular, pies and jams, fish and chips, and baked scallops. They were the best I ever had. The beautiful wool sweater that she knitted for me I still wear it every winter day. That's the most tangible thing I can feel her and remember her by. Kok and I were very fortunate to be able to visit "Mum" last summer and to spend a little time with her. She looked surprisingly well then, given that she was quite ill before. That was my lasting impression of her: a warm, loving, soft-spoken, strong, elegant lady! We are so lucky to have her in our lives. She'll be always in our hearts.

My thoughts are with you Jennifer and Penny and your families. Mrs. Helen Dyer was, and will forever be, my ‘Canadian mom’ since my landing at Nova Scotia in 1976. Her kindness and hospitality had brightened my early settlement days in Canada, and I am glad to have the opportunity in delivering my gratitude to her during our last visit. She may be gone but her love and spirit will stay in me for a long time.

Hazel was the consummate professional. Her knowledge was impeccable, her teaching was exemplary, her dedication to positive education was never ending. I believe that she was perhaps the very best teacher I ever saw. I read with sadness of her passing and what she stood for will forever be with me.
