Obituary of Joyce Bernice Miller

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

MILLER, Joyce Bernice- age 92 of Georgefield, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born and raised in Brookfield, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Parsons) Paul.

In her earlier years, while raising her two sons, you would find Joyce working on their small family farm and during haying season she could use a hay fork as well as the next one. For years she was the mail carrier when the post office was in Latties Brook. She then worked at Sunnyside in Bedford before joining the KFC team and retired at age 64. After a few years at home, she began getting calls asking if she would sit with someone who was sick. She did, and every family loved her, referring her to the next family who needed her help. She retired, again at age 80, from a job she loved.

Joyce was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Latties Brook. She volunteered at the local food bank, was a founding member of Four Points Recreation Centre, was a life-member of LOBA, having held every office including “Worthy Mistress”. Quilting was her favorite pastime and over the years many beautiful quilts were set up on a frame and completed in her living room -all done by hand. Day trips with her niece, Judith were always enjoyed or flying to Calgary on one of her many trips to visit her nephew, Billy and his wife, Vivian. She developed a love of tole painting and produced amazing works.

Joyce is survived by her son, Lee; daughter in-law, Joy; sister, Margaret Day; several nieces and nephews and her faithful dog, Coco.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; son, Bruce; brother, George; sisters, Nina and Ethel and friend, Edith Ettinger.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A graveside service will take place at 2pm Friday, February 5, 2021 in St. John The Baptist Anglican Cemetery in Latties Brook, Lawrin Armstrong officiating.
