Obituary of Frances Edna Frame

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

FRAME, Frances Edna – age 81, of Gays River.  It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frances Edna (Scothorn) Frame announces her passing, on August 15, 2020, Elk Court, Brookfield.  Frances was born in 1938, in Hardwoodlands, to Edna (Kelly) and Reginald Scothorn. Frances had a bright mind and a drive to learn and study, completing grades 11 and 12 beyond Hardwoodlands, in Milford and Truro, respectively, and attending Normal College in Truro.  Early on, Frances taught in 2-room schools, and was not much older than some of her pupils. She returned to school, after having a family, to acquire a Bachelor of Arts in Atlantic Studies, from St Mary’s University.

Frances and Donnie raised their girls in Milford, where Frances taught for much of her career. Frances and Donnie retired to Gay’s River, where they lived until 2017.

Frances’ love of making music was fostered through her membership in church choir, piano playing, singing, and even building and playing a traditional drum. She was active in her church community, and enjoyed trips to Berwick Camp for a number of years. Frances enjoyed quilting, knitting, baking and could play a good game of cards. Frances loved children and adored her grandchildren, those who lived far away and the ones who lived next door. Although she was a working mother, Frances, along with Donnie, provided a stable and loving home for their girls, and she  is remembered for her wisdom and the strong support she provided.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Marianne (Michael) Toombs, Guelph, ON, Connie (Michael) Isenor, Gay’s River, and Gail (Darrell) Coldwell, Gay’s River, her grandchildren, Alexander Isenor, Myles Coldwell, Marlee (Brandon) Coldwell, Laura Toombs and Richard Toombs, sister, Norma Howlett, brother, John(Gail) Scothorn, sisters-in-law Eleanor Frame and Linda Clarke, many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Donald Frame, parents, Edna and Reginald Scothorn, brothers, Reginald and Alfred.

Arrangements for funeral service are under the care of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, and a celebration will occur at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Shumilacke Food Bank, Milford Lantz United Church, or a charity of your choice.

Frances’ family gratefully acknowledges the sensitive and loving care she has received from the staff at Elk Court. A special thank you is also extended to friend, Barb Aitken, whose kindness has been so appreciated. Your hearts are big.
