Obituary of Donald Francis Murphy

MURPHY, Donald Francis - age 70 of Dutch Settlement, passed away suddenly on August 3, 2020. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Daniel and Gertrude (Delorey) Murphy.

Don served in the Army as a member of the Royal Canadian Black Watch Regiment.  He was also an Airborne paratrooper and ended his military career as a transport operator in CFB Gagetown.  Don also worked for many years with the Commissionaires at the Halifax Shipyard.  He was a member in good standing with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 162, Lower Sackville for 44 years working on many committees.  Don was an avid pool player and was president of the pool league.  He volunteered for many years with the Lions Club in Gagetown and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Don is survived by beloved sons, Daniel (Kerry), Calgary, AB, Donald (Tracey), Lower Sackville; daughter, Trina (Steven), Dutch Settlement.  He will be remembered by his siblings, Jeanette (Gilles), St. Croix, QC; Barry (Jo-Anne), Belnan; Susan (P.J.), Middle Sackville; Daniel (Donna), East Uniacke; beloved grandchildren, MacKenzie, Mitchell, Abby, Zachary and Kyle; great-grandchild, Lucas; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by brothers, Brian and Arthur; sister, Trudy Menard.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 162, Lower Sackville at a date yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory can be made to the Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Society.
