Obituary of Barbara Marguerite Hamilton

HAMILTON, Barbara Marguerite, age 79, of Nine Mile River, passed away peacefully at home, on July 18, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marguerite (Meagher) Thomson. 

Our Mom was a loving and kind person who cherished her family and friends, enjoyed baking and cooking. She was a social butterfly that loved to make people smile. She was also a prankster who liked to have fun. Barb would light up a room when she entered it.  Her family was always her number 1 priority.  Besides raising her seven children, she worked at Cara Operations at the Halifax Airport, Fletcher‘s Restaurant in Truro, and she ran her own bakery in Elmsdale with daughter Rose. She was also a long-time employee at Sobey‘s in Elmsdale. 

She is survived by children, Rose (Cecil) Harnish, Heather Hamilton (Rick Wood), Debbie (Bruce) Cross, Junior (Sherry) Hamilton, Valerie Hamilton, Kenny (Debra) Hamilton and Joanne Hamilton, 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jim, infant son Harold; brothers Bobby, Johnny and Kenny; and an infant sister. 

 Visitation will be 6 - 8 PM Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, in the Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.

A funeral will be held 2 pm Wednesday in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, Rev. Michael Walsh officiating.  Antique cars are welcome to cruise to Enfield in her honour following the service.  Barb and Jim were car-people as well, and the family would appreciate the gesture.

Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Enfield.
