I first met Irvel during my last couple of years in junior tennis tournaments in Nova Scotia, some 70 years ago. In more recent times we renewed our acquaintanceship on the courts of St. Georg's and the Waegwoltic Club. I shall always remember Irvel as both an excellent tennis player and gentleman.

My cousin Irvel was very special to me and my family and will be sadly missed. On visits to Canada a wonderful welcome was waiting for us and trips to Mahone Bay and the Sea Shanty restaurant and meeting up on P.E.I. give us everlasting memories. Happy days and many discussions of tennis especially Wimbledon.
May Irvel rest in peace.

Sending my sincere sympathy to all of Irv's family. You will certainly miss him. My late husband Norm and I first met Irv and Shirley on the tennis courts at the Oakfield Golf Club when we had a cottage nearby. That was the beginning of a great friendship and lots of good times, both on and off the courts. Thanks Irv for the first class plane ride to Austria years ago!

Condolences to the MacKie family on Irvel's passing. The MacKie family played a huge role for those of us growing up on the west side of New Glasgow in the early 1950s. Irvel was a natural athlete excelling in hockey and tennis. He always played fair and never abused his many talents. It was an honor to be his friend and like so many others, I will truly miss him.

Please accept out heartfelt sympathies for your loss, Irv was always a welcome addition to our life when he would come in for a visit to Vantage Motors .
A cheerful word and a warm conversation were the order of the day , and he always left anyone he interacted with, feeling just a level more satisfied with their day .
Hearing of his adventures in far off tennis worlds brought smiles to all.
Godspeed and well wishes from all his friends at Vantage Motors in Truro.
He will be missed .
Derek Lugar and all the associated friends he made here .

Sandy,
We are so sad to hear of your Dad's passing. I really loved spending time hitting tennis balls with him. His patience and intelligence came through with every ball returned. And, they always came back. Toward the end of his playing days, I think we spent more time talking than playing, but those are the most cherished times. One of the kindest and gentlest individuals I have ever known. Our prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family.

Irvel MacKie was more than a friend he was a Tennis Buddy. Irvel and I hit millions of tennis balls playing singles and doubles together on courts in Nova Scotia and across Canada and Internationaly. Joan and I hav e wonderful memories of trips with Irvel and Shirley in Fla,Turkey and city's across Canada. Irvel was a tough competitor, had great sense of the game and a supportive doubles partner. I miss Irvel's quiet and sensible nature. I have to believe Irvel is at a good place and he will find a tennis court and he will follow MacKie tennis through Sandy. Our condolence's to the MacKie family.

My condolences to all the family .I knew Irvel for many years both on and off the tennis courts. My wife and I started going to Hilton Head Island in the winter because Irvel and Shirley were there. I was usually on the other side of the net and can verify what a great competitor he was. He was always cheerful both on and off the court which made our matches enjoyable. The entire tennis community have lost a great friend.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Irvel's passing.. He and I were childhood friends in New Glasgow..Fortunately, we revived our friendship at our '54 New Glasgow High School Class Reunion back in 2014. In recent years we chatted at Tim's and on the phone
where we shared many memories interrupted by guffaws of laughter. I'll remember him as an outstanding athlete, even more especially as a very personable and considerate guy.. May family members, relatives, and friends be comforted by many happy reflections.Best Wishes,. Ross Thompson

So sad to learn this morning of Irv's passing. Irv taught me pretty much everything I know about tennis, both on and off the court. He gave everything he had to tennis in Nova Scotia, and I was one who benefitted directly from all that he brought to the table. I will sorely miss his mentoring and his friendship, but I have a rich storehouse of personal memories from all the good times we had together. Lindy and I send our heartfelt condolences to the girls and their families. We wish we could do more than offering "virtual hugs" at this difficult time, but know that we are thinking of you a lot. RIP Irvel. Love, Tom and Lindy

Dear Leslie, Sandy & Kelly,
We were sad learning of the passing of your Dad and our friend Irv.
It was easy becoming friends with your Dad during our days together at the Air Canada, Cargo facility.
A friendship that extended outside of the workplace with numerous memories and plenty of good laughs.
Known to most of us as a quiet gentleman who won the respect of those he met. I believe people like your parents leave us with many lessons. Their love for life was shared easily to those of us fortunate enough to have known them.
Among the many lessons, Irv shared was his ability to connect his passion for tennis to the realities of life. Every aspect of the game was a reminder of who we are and how doing our best is what really matters.
The memories are what will help us all during the days ahead.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
