Please share a memory of Johanna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LORENZEN, Johanna "Dinamarca" 71-Lantz, passed away March 28, 2013 in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Edmunston, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Ernst and Alma (Gauguin) Lorenzen. A multi-talented artist, Dinamarca maintained a life-long creative passion which she loved to share with others. She grew up with clay, learning the craft of pottery from her pioneering parents. As a potter, she developed her own style which she pursued independently, and in partnership with her parents in the internationally renowned Lorenzen Pottery. Having mastered clay, she also took up the brush and spent years building a reputation as a skilled painter in the mediums of oil and watercolour. In later years, Dinamarca focused her talent exclusively on watercolour, her favourite subjects being mushrooms and birds. While her status as a master artisan was acknowledged in her home province of Nova Scotia, it was through the internet that her paintings came to the attention of a wider audience, and her work can now be found in collections across North America, Europe and Asia. No stranger to hard work, Dinamarca raised her two sons while pursuing her artistic passions. She worked in other fields too, notably as a journalist and a teacher of ceramics and painting. Most recently, Dinamarca served as Executive Assistant to the leader of the Christian Heritage Party of Canada, a challenge she enjoyed. Always a spiritual person, she found strength in being an active member of her local Christian community. Throughout her life, Dinamarca made and kept friends easily. She cherished these friendships immensely, and they were a constant support for her until the end. She will be sadly missed by sons Sanchez (Barbara Ferguson) King, Halifax ; Torben(Robin Wambolt) King, Dutch Settlement; grandchildren Miranda and Raegan King, Halifax; Tianna and Cavan King, BC; sister Franca Sweetapple, niece Monica Sweetapple, nephew Talbot Sweetapple, as well as a large extended family. She was predeceased by her former husband and longtime friend Frank King. Visitation will be 7-9pm Tuesday at the Ettinger Funeral Home, from where a funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday April 3, 2013, Pastor Lennett Anderson officiating. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family by signing the "Guest Book" at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
