SAMPSON, William Albert “Bill” – age 71, Belnan, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 21, 2017 in The Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Helen Fraser and the late Bert Sampson. In his early years, Bill spent a lot of time playing hockey and baseball on the Halifax Commons and was involved in horse racing. Bill began his working career at Maritime Paper, where he met his beautiful bride, Mae. He later spent 27 years working with Nova Scotia Power. Bill was an outgoing man with an infectious laugh and a large personality. He enjoyed volunteering and gave of his time and talents to many organizations including the Parkinson’s Walk, Shumilacke Food Bank, and dressing as “Louis the Lightening Bug” for NSP at the annual IWK Kermesse. He was for a time, a Tartan Greeter at Stanfield International Airport. He enjoyed farm work and volunteered at MacDonnell Family Farm. In retirement, Bill and Mae enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Digby playing cards, Mexican trains and dominoes, as well as many clam boils. He enjoyed sailing with his friends from Nova Scotia Power. Bill was artistic and painted ceramics. Most of all, Bill was passionate about his family. Besides his mother, Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mae; his three daughters, Denise (Donald) MacLeod, Stittsville, Ont.; Michelle (Steven) MacDonald, Lower Sackville; Tracie Sampson, Halifax; 7 grandchildren, Alex, Brandon, Olivia and Nathalie Robson, Matthew MacDonald, Jessica and Ryan MacLeod; siblings, Victor (Sharon), Balmoral; Audrey (Gerry) Cyr, Dartmouth; Ralph (Joan), Halifax; sister in law, Diane Chandler; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Bill had many lifelong friends, including Scott White and James Evong. Visitation will be held 2-4pm and 7-9pm Monday, October 23 in St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 112 Mill Village Road, Shubenacadie from where a funeral mass will be held 2pm Tuesday, October 24, Fr. Duncan MacMaster officiating assisted by Deacon Wilfred Boudreau. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment in Sandy Hill Cemetery, Belnan. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Atlantic Division or The Shumilacke Food Bank, Shubenacadie.
