Obituary of David William Robert Matthews

MATTHEWS, David William Robert – age 39 of Hammonds Plains/Enfield. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing on August 6, 2017 of David, who was also affectionately known as “Davy” or "Dave" Born in Halifax, he was a son of Clare (Kennedy) and the late David Matthews. Dave was employed in the Electronics division at the Shearwater Air Force base by IMP for over 14 years, where he was known as the “king of ace” and a huge jokester by all who knew him. He was a well educated man with skills that went far beyond his career! He was raised in Enfield, and made many life-long buddies, not only in his local area, but also through his workplaces in Shearwater & IMP. Davy had a huge heart and a willingness to help anyone. In Spring of 2007 he found his soulmate Laura Leah & they were married in Jamaica on 11/11/11. They were inseparable and deeply in love. They were very proud of their recently purchased home and had many future plans and ideas for it . Besides spending time with his wife, Laura Leah & their 2 lovable dogs Winston & Sunny as well as their cats, he also enjoyed being with his family. His other passions included the enjoying the great outdoors- like fishing, hunting, four wheeling, golfing, soaking up the sun on Queensland beach and boating. He certainly had a green thumb!!! Dave is survived by his loving wife, Laura Leah (Jardine), mother, Clare- who was his “heart”; sisters, Sussie & Debbie, both of Enfield, Stephanie (Mike) Brake, NL, father in-law David T. Jardine and mother in-law Ellie Doucette, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, one great nephew as well as many cousins, aunts & uncles. He was predeceased by his father who was his best friend and mentor, David Sr. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Davy’s Life will be held at 11am, Saturday, August 12 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. The dress code is casual, as Dave would want everyone to be comfortable. Donations may be made to your local SPCA in Davy’s honour.
