Our deep-felt condolences.
(With heavier heart, I saw the notice only a month after June 18th this year. Have been wearing bright colours all week...)
All our H.ER.H school years in Milf’d/Shubie, Marilyn was my 'Happy Hacker', nigh monthly. My mum often said, “Dougy,’ hair’s too long..., you need to see the ball...AND the end of the pool, or you’ll hit your head on that too! You need to see Mrs Babineau down Burgess Rd.today .. No, call first for an appointment, she’s always busy.” Oh yes, uncounted happy hours at THE beauty Salon in THE hairdresser’s chair, with her informative chat & good cheer.
And (little story:) ’2nd time I showed Mum the cut (my first teen-age year), I innnocently said,
“Nice cut, eh? Um...Mrs Babineau swears a bit when she talks, doesn’t she?”
Ma bursts out laughing: “Damn’ right, like a sailor.” (Studies show that folks who swear like soldiers are brighter, gladder, crafty, way more creative than average... Our Mrs Babineau’s Shubie’s proof of it, and who’ll hold it against her or us other swearers when it's justified?)
* * *
Later, showed my family Marilyn’s J’Mars shop, Wildlife Pk entrance. Smiles all round the second you stepped in.
Fond memories only of a valued community member, leader of folks, a grand lady... We’ll be by Smith’s Tinsmith Shop soonest. You rest in peace, Marilyn. Blessings on your family. -ds for the Scotts & Fergusons.

Dear Jacki, Pierre, Julie, Tahnee & Families,
Our sympathy and warmest thoughts are with you during this sad time and I hope that your many memories will be source of comfort to you. It just seems like yesterday when the Babineaus moved to Burgess Road and Marilyn's Beauty Salon opened - that's where I got my first short haircut when I was 8 years old. Every Friday night for many years, my Mom (Ann Cotten) would go to her salon to have her hair done. I will also always remember the Barbie birthday cake that Mom had her make for my 9th birthday - that was one special cake!! In later years, I got to reconnect with her at the Tin Smith Shop and so enjoyed our chats. While her passing is a such a great loss, she leaves behind a wonderful legacy through you, her family, and all that she did for Shubenacadie. Please know that Karl and I will always have fond memories of her and in honour of her, we've made a donation to the Tin Smith Shop.
Sincerely,
Heather & Karl Wagner

To Marilyn's family, We were so sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. She was a force of nature and probably that was one of the reasons she and my mother, Cora were such good friends. It seems our family and yours have been intertwined over the years. Mum will be upset when I try and break the news to her, most of her friends are gone and this will be hard. You were blessed to have her in your life's and you never had to guess what she thought about something (ha ha). What a talented woman who fiercely loved her family. You are in our prayers.
God bless you all.

To The Babineau Family
Please except my condolences at this most difficult time. I remember Marilyn when she came to cut Barbara Scott's hair. The wonderful stories she told of her family, most especially her grandchildren. She was so proud of them. What a wonderful personality she had, her cheerfulness was encouraging. She will be sadly missed. God bless you all in the coming months as you mourn for her.

Marilyn was a remarkable and talented lady. She will be greatly missed.
I first met Marilyn while working at Rex's. She was running the shop at the Wildlife Park. Rex would call her first thing in the morning when the bread truck arrived to see how many buns she wanted. Sometimes he used to joke and ask her if he left his watch on her bureau. The bread guy always laughed.
Living in the same community we ran into each other often. The Exhibition and craft shows won't be the same without her.
Please accept my deepest condolences.
