BROWN, Wilford Guy 79, Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit of the Colchester East Hants Hospital on May 5, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born in North Salem, he was the son of the late Howard and Sadie (Parker) Brown. Wilford is survived by his wife, Greta (McPhee) of 58 years, Brookfield; his son Michael (Janice), Urbania; daughters, Stephanie (Paul), Toronto; Shelley (Eric), Oakville; grandchildren, Ben, Emily, Jillian, Meaghan, Adam and David; brothers Kenneth (Carrie), Brookfield, Russell (Sandra), Shubenacadie; sisters-in-law Dorothy, Burlington, Audrey, Enfield and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Roy and Cecil and infant sisters Lillian Violet and Reta Mae. Wilford was a lifelong resident of Shubenacadie where he and Greta gave back to their community. In particular, Wilford was a member of the Shubenacadie United Church acting as elder and treasurer. He also was founding member of the Shubenacadie Volunteer Fire Brigade. He spent his working life as a mechanic at the BA garage and Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forest where he retired in 1993. A wonderful grandfather, he gained great pleasure through playing and spending time with his grandchildren. Over the years he thoroughly enjoyed playing cards, golfing with his buddies, playing his spoons in near-by communities, wood-working and traveling with Greta. Special thanks to Dr. David Henderson, palliative care physician; the palliative care unit with special thanks to Cathryn and Angela, palliative care nurses allowing him to die with dignity. Thanks also to Hospice for providing comfort and care during Wilford's stay in the hospital and to the many family and friends who visited and offered their prayers and support. Special recognition and heartfelt thanks to brothers Kenneth and Russell and their wives Carrie and Sandra, who provided unwavering support for Wilford and the challenges he faced especially over the past 10 years. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm Wednesday May 8th in Ettinger's Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, from where the funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday May 9th, Rev. Martin Reid officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Colchester East Hants Palliative Care or Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or the Shubenacadie United Church.
