Obituary of John Arthur Redding

REDDING, John Arthur – Age 80 of Coldstream Rd, Gays River passed away peacefully January 18, 2017 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in St. Thomas, ON, he was a son of the late Stanley and Beatrice (Claridge) Redding. John joined the Royal Canadian Navy when he was 18 years old, serving for 25 years, retiring in 1979. He then worked for the Halifax Shipyards, retiring in 1998. After retirement, he enjoyed several hobbies including building model ships and working around his property. He loved watching soccer, which no one was allowed to interrupt, except in his later years when he watched with his great granddaughter, Stella, who he had a special bond with. He loved draft horses and bull dogs and dreamed of owning a Rolls Royce. He will be sadly missed by his children and grandchildren He is survived by children; Margaret (Bill) Flinn, Linda Redding (Michael Wilmot), Darlene (Mike) Shaw, Dennis Redding (Potula Velmmas), Ross Redding (Kim DeWolfe), Michael (Charlene) Redding and Bev Walker; grandchildren, Adam, David, Carole, Shannon, Angelina, Matthew, Anthony, Stephanie, Marina, Carson and Luke; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Clark and brother, David Redding and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Janet (Doucette) and sister, Margaret Redding. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday, January 22 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, from where a funeral service will be held 1pm Monday, January 23. Interment will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Indian Brook. The family would like to thank all who showed their support during this difficult time.
