Obituary of Marlene Ashley

ASHLEY, Marlene Joyce 51, Elmsdale passed away peacefully on May 15, 2013, at home with family by her side after battling polycystic kidney and liver disease for 30 years. Born at Sandy Point, she was the daughter of Marjorie (Brannen) Carr, Clarks Harbour and the late Angus Victor Woods. Marlene worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant on Infant Surgery at the IWK for five years. She then worked as a medical assistant for MSI and then medical receptionist at Elmsdale Medical Centre. She also worked as a secretary for Laurie Morash Dance School and then was a home child care provider for ten years. Her greatest career was raising her daughter. She was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of books, she also enjoyed crafts and needlepoint and painting. Marlene is survived by her husband Gary L.R. Ashley; daughter Katrina Marie Ashley; brother Raymond (Krista) Woods, Baccaro; sister Kathleen (Patrick) Lovitte, Greenwood; step father Warren Newell, Clarks Harbour; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister Dorothy Ann Brannen. Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Home. Visitation 7-9pm, Friday in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie with funeral service 2pm, Saturday in St. George's Anglican Church, Dutch Settlement, Rev. Canon David Fletcher and Rev. Pattie McKenna officiating. Interment in St. George's Cemetery, Dutch Settlement. Donations in memory of Marlene may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
