ETTINGER, Thomas Osborne "Tommy" 69 of Shubenacadie passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday June 21st, 2013 at the Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Gordon and Bertha (Smith) Ettinger. Tommy was an avid hockey fan, starting with the Toronto Maple Leafs and later crossing the fence to the Montreal Canadiens. He resided in Shubenacadie most of his life. Tommy was an adherent of the Shubenacadie United Church. He started his working career with Elm Avenue Dairy then went on with Farmer's Dairy, Owen Davis Trucking, Commercial Highway Services (CP Express), Atlantic Wholesalers and finally Shaw Resources, from where he retired. He worked part-time with Jimmie McMichael and Kevin Murphy Inc. He is survived by children Barbie Ettinger (Kevin), Gore; Thomas Osborne Ettinger Jr. (Theresa)of Beaumont Alberta; Sandra Ettinger of Nine Mile River; Christopher Armstrong of Halifax and Todd (Monica) Armstrong of Middle Stewiacke; stepmother Shirley Ettinger, Bible Hill, grandchildren Jennifer, Justin, Ashley, Harrison and Sarah, sisters Irene (Clyde) Ingraham Shubenacadie and Eva Isenor of Summerside, step sisters Bev (Ronnie) MacDonnell, Karen (Jim) Sidcy, step brother Brian (Joann) Ettinger, special nieces and nephews, Richard (Susan), Christine (Mike), Pamela, Tanya (Scott) and Jeff (Joyce) and several other nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place today from 6-9pm at the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie, from where a funeral service will be held 3pm Tuesday, Pastor Dale Crawford and Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shubenacadie United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We the family appreciate the kindness and care extended to Tommy and his family by the doctors and staff at the Halifax Infirmary.
