Obituary of Glenys Fuller

Please share a memory of Glenys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glenys Elizabeth Fuller Passed away peacefully at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro on January 21, 2015, surrounded by family. She was born in Staindrop, County Durham, England on August 3, 1923. Glenys was the youngest child of 8 born to Henry Jones and Elizabeth Jones (nee Groves). Prior to WWII, Glenys moved from Staindrop to Devoran, Cornwall to live with her sister Lily and take care of her nephew Lionel. She fell in love with Cornwall, but never forgot her roots in the North. At the beginning of WWII, Glenys supported the war effort by working in the Pressed Steel factory in Cowley, Oxfordshire. This plant was instrumental in the production of the deHavilland Tiger Moth training aircraft. At age 17, she joined the RAF in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and served 2 years in Britain. She was stationed at an RAF Base Dishforth, where she met the love of her life, LAC Jack Fuller. Glenys became a war bride at 19 and after the war, travelled to Canada by boat with hundreds of other brides, to be re-united with her husband. They lived most of their lives in the Toronto Ontario area where they raised their three children, and then retired to Nova Scotia and lived in Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Milford Station, Shubenacadie, and most recently Truro. Among the many pastimes Glenys enjoyed, she counted her love of music and dancing at the top of the list - especially ballroom dancing with Jack. Whether it was competing for fun with her dance group to Jimmy Dorsey and Nat King Cole, or simply twisting to Chubby Checker at her daughter's wedding, she would be on the floor. Glenys was also an early Hollywood Musical's buff who loved watching Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Glenys loved to knit, sew, and crochet for her family, creating many gifts such as bedspreads, hats, mitts, dolls clothes, and tea cozies. Glenys and Jack loved gardening and their little greenhouse in Mahone Bay was always full of seedlings ready for the beds. Glenys could often be found up to her elbows in mulch in her gardens at her daughter's home in Milford Station. Glenys was a very loving and proud Mother, Gramma and Great-Gramma and before her illness often traveled to Ontario to visit her children there. Her grandchildren fondly remember Gramma making scones and tea for them before bedtime, or "mince and tatties" for dinner. Whether getting ready for school plays, Cubs, Guides, or Band recitals, Glenys was always ready to lend a hand. The family sincerely thanks the staff at Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Truro Nova Scotia for their kindness, and professionalism during Mum's stay. They were never too busy for questions and kind words. She is survived by her children Sharon Byers (Dave), Brampton ON; Kerry Fuller (Suzanne Jacques), Bear River NS; Cheryl Munroe (Vaughn), Milford Station, NS; Grandchildren Tammy Fockler (Gary); Darcy Fuller (Michael Holinsky); Andrea Rodda (Chris); Kelsey Fuller (Ashley); Graham Goulet (Trisha); Holly LeBlanc (Joey); Troy Munroe (Becky Cable); Robyn Bishop (Dave); and Mark Munroe (Somer Gotmy); Great-grandchildren Megan, Tyler, Alyssah, David, Kieran, Lorelai, Jack, Anna, Riley, and Lucy; and many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom. Glenys is predeceased by her husband Jack, and brothers Charles, Ron, Jack, Bob and Will and sisters Lily and Eva. Funeral will be held Saturday, January 31 at 2pm in Milford Lantz United Church, Lori Crocker, DM officiating. In Glenys' memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. www.alzheimer.ca Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Glenys may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
