Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
KENNEDY, James "Jim" A., Stewiacke, - July 28 ,1923 - December 07,2014, Jim passed away with quiet grace and dignity at home with his family at his side. After a valiantly fought battle against heart disease, he has now gone to join his wife, our mother Ev; his son (Shawn) and his great-grandson Riley (Nicolette) in eternal rest. He leaves behind four children: Brooke, Ross (Charlotte), Shannon (Kevin), Alex (Andrea). Eleven grandchildren: Nicolette, Zachary, Jacob, Marrissa, Braydon (Alex and Andrea), Rylan, Christie (Shannon and Kevin), Matt, Meghan, Naomi, Vince (Ross and Charlotte) and three great-grandchildren: Tatyana (Meghan), Joey, Kalie (Matt). He was a WWII veteran, leaving his job in NFLD after the ferry "Caribou" was sunk off the coast and enlisting in Nova Scotia, serving on the corvette "North Bay" protecting convoys traversing the North Atlantic. During the years after the war he worked as a logger on the west coast of BC. He returned to the Maritimes, enrolled and graduated from UNB as a Forrester. In 1957, he married his beautiful wife Evelyn "Ev" and started a family, which became five rambunctious children. After a number of additional years living in BC with his family, he proceeded to move his growing family back to Nova Scotia. He then settled in Stewiacke and began his career as a Forrester with the Nova Scotia Lands & Forests (now Department of Natural Resources) from which he retired at the age of 60. Jim was an outdoorsman all of his life and had a passion for anything to do with the woods, nature, hunting, trapping or fishing. He gave his love of the outdoors back to the community through his years with the local Scout movement and one of his highlights was leading the troop at the Canadian National Jamboree in 1981 in Alberta. He always used to say he wanted to work with a "chainsaw" until he was at least 80, and he certainly did this and then some. His son Shawn died November 26, 2013 as a result of a car pedestrian accident in Vancouver and his ashes have stayed with the family. Dad's wish was for the two of them to be buried together beside the love of his life Ev. The family will receive visitors from 10am until the beginning of a Celebration of Jim's life to be held 11am, Friday, December 12, 2014 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev.
