Obituary of Garfield Knockwood

KNOCKWOOD, Keptin Garfield Francis (Gary) age 53 of the Indian Brook First Nation peacefully crossed over to spirit world on November 30th 2014. Gary, the youngest son of the late Keptin Irvin W and Annie E Knockwood (Beadle), was survived by his brothers Benjamin Thomas "Hutt" Knockwood and Stephen "Stevie" J Knockwood (Colleen) and his sisters Sharon M Knockwood, Annette J Knockwood and Doreen E Knockwood. Gary proudly fathered five beautiful daughters, Megan Knockwood (Trevor) and her son Liam, Caitlin Isenor (Knockwood)(Luke), Micheala Knockwood, Tianna Knockwood, and Chkupan Dawn Moore. Gary also lovingly shared his life with his partner Jane Gasior and his ex-wife Lolita Blair. Gary was the proud godfather to Charlotte Gould (Brooks), Patricia Augustine (Knockwood), Keigan Sack, Doreen C Knockwood, and Brian B Knockwood. He also left behind his best canine friend, Bella. Gary Knockwood lived an amazing loving life and lived it to the fullest. What Gary was truly most proud of was the love for his daughters and his grandson Liam. Gary was a Keptin with the Mi'kmaq Grand Council and was a founding member of the Eastern Eagle Singers. He was a respected elder, sweat lodge keeper, pipe carrier, and a traditional powwow dancer. Gary loved nature and was an outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and community provider. During his active life, he worked as a Helitack Firefighter with the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources. Over the years he also worked as an ambulance paramedic, a long haul truck driver and was a member of the Indian Brook Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation for Gary will begin on Tuesday at 1:00pm at his home in Indian Brook where a sacred fire will be lit in his honour. The funeral service and burial ceremony for Gary will be held at the Saint Kateri Church in Indian Brook on Thursday Nov 4th at 2:00pm.
