Obituary of Earle Tanner

Tanner, Earle-The family of Earle Tanner, Hardwood Lands, sorrowfully announce his passing in Colchester East Hants Regional Hospital on October 12th, 2014. Born October 24, 1924, he was the only son of John MacDonald Tanner and Ruth Louise Custance. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Blanche (Caldwell), their children Helen (Lorne) Ferguson, Everett (Janet) Tanner, Linda (Robert) Atkinson, and John (Sharon) Tanner. Also grieving his passing are grandchildren Lori (Stuart) Kemp, Matthew (Lucinda) Ferguson, Stephanie (Jason) Doutre, Nicole (Glen) Tanner, Liam Atkinson, Neil Atkinson, Jessie (Andrew) Tanner, Katie (Chris) Tanner, and Colten (Catherine) Tanner, great grandchildren Abbie, Chloe, Eamon, and Alice, and sisters, Joyce Brown and Jean (George ) Ellis. Besides his parents, Earle was predeceased by son Donald in infancy and his sister Shirley MacPhee. Earle was active in his community, serving over time as a member and past elder of Milford Lantz United Church, a charter member of the Shubenacadie Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Nova Scotia Woodlot Owners and Operators Association, Forest Products Association of Nova Scotia, Nova Forest Alliance, Emergency Measures Organization, the Hardwood Lands Cemetery Association, and with many other community initiatives. Earle was very proud to have been recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Woodlot Management in 1991 and to be named the Nova Scotia Woodlot Owner of the Year in 2002. Visitation with the family is at Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie on Wednesday October 15, 6 PM to 9 PM, a Celebration of Earle's life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday October 16th, also at Ettinger Funeral Home, Lori Crocker, DM officiating. Private interment will follow. Donations in Earle's memory can be made to Milford Lantz United Church or charity of choice. Earle's family members extend thanks for the many acts of love and support offered to us during this time.
