Obituary of David Brooks

BROOKS, David James. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Brooks, 63, of Indian Brook on May 23, 2014. David was born to Benjamin and Christine Brooks on August 12, 1950. David went to various learning institutions to update his knowledge and God given talents. His greatest aspiration was to become a Mi'kmaq artist. David's artistic accomplishments include several murals at the Micmac Native Friendship Centre, Maritime Native Artisan's Co-operative, The Mastadon Ridge Interpretive Centre, Hants East Rural High School and Shubenacadie Elementary; paintings for Statistics Canada poster, and Public Works Canada poster. David's paintings are in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Eskasoni School Board, Grace Maternity Hospital, National Indian Art Collection, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and Native Council of Nova Scotia. David was also a counsellor at the AIA Addictions Intervention Association. He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He was dedicated to informing his community about art and addiction. He voluntarily donated art work and knowledge to the community and the province of Nova Scotia. He was a very loving father to his girls- his family always came first. David Brooks is survived by his loving wife, Alice; daughters, Chelsea Crystal and Sarah Catherine; brother, Victor; sisters, Patricia, Constance, Catherine, Eileen, Genevieve, and Mary. He is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. He leaves behind his friends and relatives in Indian Brook. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Visitation today 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. Funeral service will be held 11 am, Thursday in Saint Kateri's Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Father Tom Kurudeepan O.M.I. officiating.
