MALONEY, Keptin Saqamow Reginald Matthew, 72 Indian Brook First Nation, passed away December 3rd, 2013 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by family and close friends. Born in Indian Brook, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Cope) Maloney. A great father, husband and friend to many, but most importantly, Saqamow Reginald Maloney, was an advocate and supporter of the Mikmaq Nation. With the Union of Nova Scotia Indians, he led his community to take the first ever Treaty case to the Supreme Court of Canada and won. The R. V. Simon case, declared that the Mikmaq Treaties are as valid today as they day were signed. He first served as Chief of Indian Brook First Nation in 1974. His love for the Mikmaq people and the Mikmaq Nation was evident though out his career, which spanned more than forty five years. He was a proud member of the Mikmaq Grand Council and District Chief of the Union of Nova Scotia Indians. He served his nation proudly. He is survived by his wife, Tanya Maloney, his daughters, Mary Elizabeth Brooks, Amy Maloney-Ward( Roger), April Maloney, Cheryl Maloney, Lori Ann Maloney, Julie Maloney, Tasha Syliboy, Angel Paul (Jesus Flores), Velvet Paul, Melanie Paul, Autumn Dawn Maloney. His sons, Leander (Lefty) Paul, Leo Paul, Jerome Paul and Drew Maloney. His grandchildren, Alisha Brooks( Jason Brooks), Jacob Brooks, Willow Brooks, Lucas Brooks, Real Maloney, Haley Ward, Tyler Maloney, Matthew Isaac Maloney, Brandon Alexander Maloney( Nicole Maloney), Stephen Maloney-Nevin, Hilary Maloney-Nevin, Chase Nicholas, Reginald Tanner Maloney, Teagan Maximo Maloney, Maia Maloney, Natalia Maloney, Robert Syliboy, Brooke Willis, Michael Willis, Ariel Willis, Jessica Paul, Calvin Joseph Paul, Gabriel Paul, Katie Paul, Harlem Syliboy, Camden Ruby, Precious Paul, Summer Paul, Brianna Googoo, Zoe Paul, Lexi Paul, Tori Paul, Jaylee Paul, Dante Paul, Lovie Prosper and 16 great-grandchildren and 17 godchildren who he loved dearly. He also survived by his sisters, Ruby Maloney, Barbara Paul, his brothers, James Maloney and Stephen Maloney, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Steven Maloney and Mary (Cope)MaloneyHis brother, Alfred and his sister Josephine Prosper( Maloney) Visitation will begin 3pm Thursday at the St. Kateri Church Hall. A funeral mass will be held 2pm Saturday December 7, 2013 in St. Kateri's Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Father Tom Kurudeepan O.M.I. officiating.
