Obituary of James Edward MacKay
MacKAY, James Edward “Jim” – age 66 of Milford passed away July 15, 2020 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, surrounded by family. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Edward and Catherine (Gould) MacKay.
Having been raised on a farm in Stewiacke, Jim never shied away from a day of work. Jim was a proud member of the Local 56 Union for over 45 Years. When he wasn’t working, he could often be found in his garage, fixing vehicles or keeping a pristine lawn. Jim was a good friend, was always willing to lend a hand and was generous with his time and knowledge. Both skilled and competitive, he was a fierce athlete and played baseball and hockey throughout Nova Scotia. He eventually found the golf course and spent much of his spare time on the course with friends and family. Jim also loved watching competitive sports and was a loyal and dedicated (and often heartbroken) Leaf fan for his whole life. Most of all, Jim loved his family and cherished his time with his grandchildren.
Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Brenda; children, Jami, Tara (Matt) and Mike (Maggie); Grandchildren, Adelyn Clarke, Eleanor “Ellie” MacKay and Zoe James Clarke; sisters, Bette Gourley, Beverly Ellis and Patty (Joe) Arseneau; several sisters in-law and brothers in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Brian.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 1st, 2020 at 2:00pm at Fox Hollow Golf Club, Stewiacke.
A special thanks to the palliative care team at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre and friends and family for all the help and support received.
Donations in memory may be made to the IWK Foundation.
