Obituary of Dorothy M. Higgins

HIGGINS, Dorothy M. age 78, of Middle Musquodoboit, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by family on October 2, 2019 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Thunder Bay, she was a daughter of the late Eino and Martta Leppanen.

Dorothy moved to Nova Scotia at a young age to work. She worked as a seamstress at Eaton’s and Creative Canvas and retired from Halifax Regional School Board as a custodian. Over the years, mom enjoyed being a grandmother, sewing for family, friends and community members; being a choir member, having coffee at Reid’s and being a friend to many.

She is survived by her children, Rick (Jean), Anna-Marie Hutchinson (Dale Langthorne), Sandy Higgins, Scott Higgins (Treena Davidson); grandchildren, Shelby, Colton, Brandon (Emily) and Evan.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her former husband, Eugene Higgins; sister, Peggy Marcotte; brother-in-law Jim and niece Darlene.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.

A funeral will be held 3pm Sunday October 6, 2019 in Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit, Calvin Burt, student minister, officiating.

Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
