MAYBEE, Elizabeth Jean (nee Etter) -91, of Tatamagouche, passed away peacefully October 20, 2016 in Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche. Born in Shubenacadie, she was a daughter of Fred and Edith Etter. Her working career was spent with Royal Bank in Halifax and Ontario until retirement in 1990. Elizabeth was predeceased by both parents, her best friend and husband of 65 years, Douglas, brother Stanley, his wife Lorna; sister Nancy and her husband Avard (Ettinger); as well as brothers-in-law, Gordon (Phyllis), Lloyd (Joan); sister-in-law, Hazel (Doug) Parks; daughter-in-law April Maybee; father and mother-in-law Carleton and Lulu Belle; and great-grandson, Taylor Maybee. Elizabeth is survived by sons, Fred (Debbie), Tatamagouche, NS, Brian (Gwen Mahoney), Riverview, NB; brother-in-law Keith (Gerry). She was known as Grammy to her grandchildren, Christopher Maybee (Jennifer Douthwright), David Maybee (Amy Van den Hoogen), Paul Maybee (Mikey Colborne), Claire Maybee (Jony Riley), great grand-children Ezra Maybee, Ella Maybee, Amos Maybee and David Wood, step-grandchildren Danielle Leighton (Beau Strob), Chelsea Leighton (Bryson Kriz), Kelly Leighton (Brendan Waddell), Crystal (Dean) Ramier, Jenna (Kyle) Keeping. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Until she was challenged by arthritis, she enjoyed badminton, polka, crafts, playing the piano and cards. Her involvement with the United Church included UCW and choir in Sydenham, Ontario and later in Truro. She was also a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star. While enjoying a permanent home and cottage life in Ontario, she was always drawn to return home to Nova Scotia, a dream that was realized after only 42 years in Upper Canada. To Elizabeth, family was always of utmost importance. Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to meet at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie at 10:45am, Monday October 24, from where they may proceed to a graveside service in Preeper Hill Cemetery at 11am, Rev. Boyd Vincent officiating. A reception gathering will follow in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Church, 55 King Street, Truro B2N 3K8, or the Arthritis Society. The family would like to thank the staff of Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche for their compassionate care.
