Obituary of Alfreda May McPhee
McPHEE (ELLIOTT), Alfreda May, age 82 of Stewiacke, formerly of Shubenacadie, passed away at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, with family by her side on April 26, 2018.
Born in Brentwood, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Ida (Chase) Elliott.
Alfreda's interests included gardening, crafts, family gatherings, quilting and musical jams. She was a member of the Crescent Rebekah Lodge for many years, she always enjoyed visiting the sick and the elderly. Alfreda worked many jobs over the years, started out cooking in logging camps, housekeeping for sister in-law Greta Brown, delivering mail and working at Stedman's store. She kept busy babysitting many children; she was known as "Gram" and "Mrs. Fix-it" by many of them including 3 she also considered her own grandchildren Colin, Kelsey and Tyler. She'll be greatly missed by her beloved cat, Tabby.
She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her long-time partner Norman McNeil, children Sheila (Roland) Pearl, Scotty (Jessie), Shane (Pam), Sherry (Earle) McPhee; sisters Ella McPhee and Ruth Tataryn; brother Walter Elliott; sisters in-law Phyllis MacPhee and Audrey Nolter; grandchildren Crystal, Colin, Gillian, Travis, Allison, Leslie and Dustin; great grandchildren Myles, Sabrina, Anthony, Oliver and Theo; extended family Larry, Clifford, Heather and Earl and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Merlene, brothers Clifford and Billy, grandson Darcy, brothers in-law Cecil and Carl.
The remains will rest at Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie from 6-8 pm Monday, April 30. A Rebekah Lodge Service will be held at the beginning of the visitation.
Cremation will then take place and a Celebration of Life will be held 2 pm Tuesday, May 1 at Ettinger Funeral Home Chapel, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Martin Reid officiating.
A Committal Service will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Infirmary Site of the QEII for the extraordinary care and compassion she received. Thanks to family and friends that visited, sent cards and called.
Memorial donations may be made to QEII Health Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
