Obituary of Lola Courtney COURTNEY (REID) , Lola Seeton, Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully surrounded by family January 5th, 2018 in her hundredth year, at Serenity Lodge, Enfield. Born in Halifax, March 13, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Sederick “Seddie” Reid and Emma (Seeton) Reid. Lola spent the majority of her life in Shubenacadie including her school years. She married Ralph Courtney in 1946 after he returned home from serving in the navy during the war. They soon had twins, Nancy and Patsy and shortly after a son Willie. The family was posted to Esquimalt, BC in 1952 where Miriam was born in 1955. Our family was posted back to Nova Scotia in 1960. One of Lola’s first jobs was at the TB Lynch general store. During the years Lola worked for a time in Ottawa doing clerical work. After her children were born she devoted most of her time to the family while holding the fort as the quintessential Navy wife. After her children were old enough she worked in retail sales. She was recognized as a very successful Avon agent. A job she loved dearly. She always found time to volunteer in the community. Lola was the oldest surviving member of the Shubenacadie United Church congregation. She had many friends and was loved by all in her community. After Ralph’s passing Lola moved to Serenity Lodge in Enfield. There she began a new life with her newfound senior citizen family, enjoying the many activities, trips around the area especially the senior’s events at the Enfield Legion. Her last years were a well deserved blessing. All of this enabled by her family and her new Lodge family, the residents. Special thanks and recognition to the staff of Serenity Lodge for their compassion and companionship which made her last years so enjoyable. Lola is survived by her children; Nancy (Wayne) Langille, Patsy MacPhee, Willie (Faye) Courtney, and Miriam (Mike) Dindore; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister Dorothy Clark; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Ralph; siblings Gertrude, Edith and Roderick”Rod”. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812, Highway 2, Shubenacadie, where a funeral service will be held 2 pm Thursday, January 11th, 2018, Rev. Martin Reid officiating. Reception to follow. Spring interment will be held in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Milford.
