Obituary of Velma Jean Hines

HINES, Velma J. – age 79, of West Saint Andrews, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on August 22, 2017. Born in West Saint Andrews, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Norma (Hamilton) Ramsey. Velma was a long-time employee of Maritime Tel and Tel. She was very active in her community. She was the treasurer of the community hall for many years and was a member of the Willowbend Seniors Club in Stewiacke. She filled her spare time playing cards, doing puzzles, and making crafts. She loved her cats dearly. She enjoyed her Thursday night Tim’s visits with the “Timmies Girls”. More than anything, Velma was devoted to her family. She especially loved her daily visits from her brother in law, Elroy, and the many phone calls with her daughter. Velma is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Garth O’Neil); sisters, Elva (Elroy) Hill, Leah Ramsey; brother, Bob (Anne) Ramsey; sister in law, Myrna (Frank) Weir; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alvis; sisters in law, Iona and Agnes. Visitation will be 6-8pm Saturday August 26 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie from where a funeral service will be held 1pm Sunday, August 27, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Interment to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. A reception will be held in the West Saint Andrews Community Hall. Donations in memory of Velma may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS.
