I am Mary, the youngest sister.
We four children grew up during the war years when families had to cope with absent menfolk.
Roslyn, as the eldest, rose to the occasion by making sure we did our chores and generally kept us in line.
She was the first to go to University: in studying, as in many other things, she showed all of us the road to take. All four of us became teachers.
Roslyn went on to point the way for her school classes and for her own children.
She was fortunate in having a kind husband who supported her in all that she did. She had a long life.
We shall miss Roslyn.

The service was beautiful. Sending my love.
When I had heard the news, my mind was flooded with tons of happy memories of Aunt Roslyn: the pies! the peas and the garden, berries, the Dell crossword magazines she gave me when she was done (she did the hard ones, and I could only do the easy ones!), dogs / cats / kittens, and the birds ... she would not only tell me what I should be looking for when she heard the song (size, shape, and colour), but where (ground, lower branch, trunk, up high).

I have great fortune to have had Roslyn as my mentor in birdwatching. And berry picking.
She lit the flame of learning in me as she must have done in so many other students. Those mornings of reluctantly leaving bed at 5:30am to get the best bird sitings I now know were gold.
My sincere sympathy to Alden and family in your loss of a great woman.
She lives on in my birdwatching heart.

Dear Alden,Fairlie, Leonard and Family, We want to express our sincere sympathy on your Wife and Mom's passing. We have always thought of her with great respect and admiration.Mrs. MacPhee taught Tom and I Grades 5 and 6 and was our principal also. There are so many times we have talked about her and her impact on us and our education.Tom remembers how on several occasions he left his work at school and she would arrive at his home bringing his books and telling his Mom what needed to be done.I always remember how she made you want to produce more than she expected ,simply for a chance to see her pleasure in your work.Mrs. MacPhee was a very unique lady-warm, friendly, gruff on the outside but,you just had to enjoy her.She will never be forgotten. Please accept our condolences.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have her as a teacher; however, I did enjoy her as a colleague and as a fellow-birder. I remember telling her about seeing, what I assumed was a rare bird. She asked if I could mimic the sound it made. I tried, but failed miserably at imitating the sound as students were passing by both us in the hallway. After attempting to impress Roslyn, she stated emphatically: "There isn't a bird in Nova Scotia that makes that sound."
We were all lucky to have such a person as Rosyln in our lives.
Sincerely,
Wayne Garden

Mrs. MacPhee was a wonderful teacher and made every class interesting. I don't know if she was unable to remember my name or not, but she loved to refer to me as "Greg's little sister"....she had my older brother Greg in her class some years before me and that's who I was to her. Her love of teaching and nature was evident to anyone who new her. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
May her enduring memories be of comfort at this sad time.
Sincerely,
Sandra

So sad to learn of Roslyn's passing.
May she rest in peace.
I have many memories of my mother and Roslyn engaged in a game of Scrabble, berry picking or bird watching.
As a teacher she was well respected by all.
The last time I saw Roslyn was at the Geddes reunion in 2001. It does not seem like that long ago.
I am not able to attend the service but do want to send my sincerest condolences to Alden, Fairlie, Leonard and family.
