Carl Francis Alguire (Curley)

19 September 1947 - 26 August 2026

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Francis Alguire (Curley) on 26 August 2026 just before his 79th birthday after a short battle with cancer with his wife and daughters by his side.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the oldest son of Meral (Curley) and Marie Alguire.

Carl joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1965 when he was 18 years old and was very proud to serve his country for 35 years.  Serving on nine ships, shore and training establishments, he spent most of his career in his home port of Halifax.  He had many stories about his experiences as a Navy diver, the ships he was on, the countries he visited and his time at Expo 67 and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.  He ventured to the west coast where he retired in 2000 to follow his wife to a posting in Ottawa where he continued to work for the Department of National Defence.  His position required him to spend considerable time in Sweden and made close friends who kept in touch throughout his retirement.  Carl and Wendy’s final retirement move in 2011 was to Halifax to be able to spend more time with children and grandchildren.

Carl had a lifelong love of cars, motorcycles, travelling, camping and being outdoors.  His travels took him to China for his 70th birthday and he had many pictures and stories to share upon his return.  He loved the ocean, nature, music and animals.  Carl was an avid walker, often with his dogs and always had a friendly wave and smile for his neighbours.

Carl is survived by by his loving wife of 29 years Wendy (Rikley); his children, Carl Adam (Rose), Matthew, Michael (Charlene), Jenny, and Joanne; grandchildren Jamal (Brooklyn), Kaylee, A.J, Braedan, Bailee, Caleigh (Andrew), Noah (Justyce), and Chloe; great grandchildren, Amelia, Ky’Aire, Sophia, and Hazel; brothers, Leonard (Lynn), Bill, Tim (Christina), and Todd.

He will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extensive family and friends.  Carl is predeceased by his parents and two sisters Merle and Linda.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale.

A Celebration of Life for Carl will take place on 19 September 2026 at the Elmsdale Legion from 2-4 pm.
