KERR, Gladys Margaret (nee Sibley)  - May 10, 1926 - August 21, 2026

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our 100 year “young” Mum, Grammie, great-Grammie (“GG”), and great-great-Grammie on August 21, 2026. Gladys was born and raised in Chaswood, NS, to George and Ellen (Sargeant) Sibley, and was one of 13 children. She married Cecil Kerr in 1947, raised 8 children, and lived most of her life in Meagher’s Grant. She will be greatly missed and is survived by sons Stuart (Sheilah) Kerr, Meagher’s Grant, NS; Calvin (Kimberley) Kerr, Mount Uniacke, NS; Edgar (Bonnie) Kerr, Lake Charlotte, NS; Richard (Krista) Kerr, Upper Sackville, NS; and daughter Jeanette (Derek) Parnell, Upper Lakeville, NS; daughter-in-law Jackie (Cyril); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, and many friends.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Kerr, of 54 years; sons Everett Kerr; Cyril Kerr; daughter Carolyn (Ralph) Zwicker; daughters-in-law Deborah, Loretta, and Dominique; and outlived all her siblings.

In the early 1940’s, Gladys moved to Middle Musquodoboit, NS, in order to finish high school. After graduating, she worked at the Co-op, Middle Musquodoboit, until she married. To many she was nicknamed “Happy Bum,” and was known for her big, infectious laugh and warm hugs. She loved gatherings with family and friends and in her day could out-party us all and be the first one up in the morning to make pancakes for the grandkids; loved bingo; bowling and played on a league into her 96th year and could throw a strike or spare with the best of them; thoroughly enjoyed playing Auction 45’s with anyone willing to open a deck of cards, including the “Sweet 16” club of many years; involved with the St. James United Church, Meagher’s Grant, member of the ladies auxiliary, taught Sunday School for a time, helped with many bake sales, church suppers, and was known for the best homemade bread around; while most folks decide to retire at 65, she decided to embark on a new career to help run the canteen at River Oaks Golf club for a few years.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held 2pm Monday, August 31st at St. James United Church, Meaghers Grant, with Reverend Lynk officiating, internment at Meaghers Grant Cemetery and reception to follow at the Meaghers Grant Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meaghers Grant Cemetery Fund, Soul’s Harbour, or a charity of your choice. The family extends thanks to Rosecrest-The Meadows nurses, staff, and management for their care and compassion during her short stay.
