van der Kooi, Kunje – age 106, of Brookfield, formerly of Milford and Upper Nine Mile River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2026, at Elk Court, Brookfield. Born in Vrouwenparochie, Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Brant and Hiltje (Hogerhuis) Devries. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Mom was always a busy person and a hard worker, helping with the family farm. She was known for her gardens, and she loved to knit and crochet. We all have a project of love to remember her by.

Kunje is survived by her children, Hiltje Colburn; Brant (Eileen); Ann Guildford; Mary Jane (Lewis) McCulloch; daughter-in-law Cathy; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews and family here and in the Netherlands.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband, Reinder; her son Chester and son-in-law Ralph.

Visitation will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, July 27th, 2026, until time of Funeral Service at 2:00pm that same day, Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating. Following the service, interment will take place at Sand Hill Cemetery, Nine Mile River.
